Of great interest in this group of artifacts is the first specimen
in the first row—this knife appears to have been fashioned from a mid-section
of a Cody Complex projectile point, possible a Scottsbluff point. The characteristic
horizontal ribbon-flaking and overall narrow form, coupled with the evident
re-working of both proximal and distal ends, makes this suggestion plausible.
The bottom row appears to be made up of preforms, with their evident
percussion-flaked forms, and general lack of pressure retouch. It is hoped
that further studies of the regions’ archaeology will reveal like and similar
forms ‘in context’, that site-use and preferences for specific site-attributes
per given cultures can be illuminated. |
