In 1929 August Dubbert entered his fascinating collection in the Will
County Fair and came away with first prize. His son, Vernon, has kept his
father's treasures all these years and is now sharing the artifacts with
everyone interested. As you can see, the collection of unusual artifacts
goes back to before Clovis time by millions of years.
On the bottom left is pictured a partial fossilized vertebrae and shown
on the right is what appears to be a sponge fossil, both millions of years
old.
Pictured top left is a salt-water conch shell that had to be brought
into this area at one time and below that is a snail shell. Starting at
top right we have a clay ball and below that we have a clam shell that
was found on this large hill on the Dubbert farm.
Below the clam shell is a partial pipe stem and it is one of the most
decorated ones that I have seen.
Last, but certainly not least, is the blue ribbon that Vern's father
won 73 years ago for displaying this fine collection of artifacts at the
Will County Fair, held in Peotone.
