Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Ogala moved to Peotone over 40 years ago to start
their lives as farmers, a change of pace from the woodworking that Mr.
Ogala had been doing. They bought 160 acres of land and have been farming
ever since and now are actually farming 320 acres. Over the years Mr. Ogala
has acquired these artifacts while out in the fields working and has saved
them……the ones he hadn’t given away to admirers.
We start off with a Dalton in the top left-hand corner, followed by
two Thebes. The next two points are interesting as Stone and I don’t quite
know what they are. They are not exactly your typical Dovetails but fit
nicely into the typology of Warrick, a point found further east. In the
second row we have what looks to be two Heavy Duty points, a Big Sandy
and two Raddatz
Side Notch points. The third row is various forms of Kirk Corner Notch
and a Cobbs knife at the end. The bottom row are all Kirks.
Thanks go to both Mr. and Mrs. Ogala for sharing their collection. He
had his whole points in a plastic container and his broken artifacts in
a metal band-aide box. See that point in the top row that is second from
the right….look closely and you will see where it is now glued together…
both halves were in the band-aid container and it took me a bit of time
to realize they went together…..…..nice artifact that may change distribution
maps.
