In his very early years Michael worked delivering newspapers in town
and one of the houses was Ed Schoonover’s on Third Street. Mr. Schoonover
had this ¾ grooved axe sitting on top of a milk can just outside
the front door and Michael always admired the artifact. Mr. Schoonover
found this axe when he was digging a new foundation for his front porch.
One Christmas Michael received a very special gift instead of the usual
money from Mr. Schoonover: The axe he had always admired. This piece is
treasured by Michael and to this day and you can see it in his eyes when
he speaks of this gift.
Michael took the time to bring all these artifacts to Peotone when he
came to visit his family and I can never thank him enough. Michael is also
responsible for starting the Historical Society of Greater Peotone and
the society hopes to create a local museum to safeguard some of the remaining
collections of the area because so many of them have already been lost
to us.
One big thanks from me Michael.
