The first two points pictured in the top row are Fox Valley Bifurcates
dating about 6200 - 5800 B.C. The next point is a MacCorkle Stemmed Bifurcate
which dates from 7000 to 6500 B.C. The fourth large point is probably a
Godar or Big Sandy-like type dating to the Early Archaic. The next artifact
is a Robinson.
The first artifact in the second row is a Brewerton dating to the Late
Archaic, approximately 3000 to 1700 B.C. The middle point seems to be a
Perkioman Broad which is not known to be found in this area, however, this
is the third one we have seen like this in local collections. They are
known to occur as far west as the northeast tip of Indiana and their presence
here will be reported to the proper authorities. The Perkioman dates to
the Late Archaic/Early Woodland period, approximately 1700 to 1500 B.C.
The last artifact in the middle row will remain unnamed because it is so
resharpened it makes it difficult, if not impossible, to name though it
does have Woodland flaking.
Pictured in the bottom row are two pipe bowls from the historic period
either used as trade goods with the Native Americans or from early settlers.
Pictured in the center is a point from the Middle Woodland Hopewell period.
Known as a Carter, this point would date from approximately 100 B.C. to
A.D. 350. |
