Here we have another ¾ grooved axe and this one shows plenty
of polish in the groove and on the blade. One of the oldest finds
of a ground-stone axe was at the Modoc Rock Shelter in southern Illinois.
As I understand, it probably took a few days to produce an artifact such
as this, and weeks if made of quartzite or other hard material. I
admire the end product that was made so long ago as I can’t imagine pecking,
grinding and polishing......and ending up with a good axe....... possibly
I could come up with a bad example in four weeks if I tried really hard.
