Alibates Flint Quarries National Park!
Dirt Brother Charles Swenson takes us there!
This is another view from the hilltop we visited, this time looking to the northwest over the dried lakebed of Lake Meredith.  All the red is usually covered in water, but the entire area is in drought conditions. They were 9 inches behind on their rainfall for the previous year at the time of this picture, which means a lot more when you take into consideration that the annual rainfall is only 15 inches!

This is where the Canadian River flows, and the slopes above where the shoreline contain a large number of archeologically signficant sites, less subject to visitation supervision.  Most of it is accessible as as the Lake Meredith National Recreation Area, as well as a significant portion of the upstream area.  Further upsteam on the Canadian River there is also the only Bureau of Land Management Land left in the state of Texas: land that is still in the public domain.
