Today Joe and I went to a creek 5 minutes from home, walked down the trail straight to the first gravel bar, and found a pile of flint from someone huntin' heads. Down stream 100yds on the same bar we spotted someone searching in vain, we had on the hip waders so we headed up stream. Lots of really good flint exposed from the last rain. We need rain to turn the
gravel, clear water allows algae to grow quite rapidly, which makes all rocks look the same after just a few weeks so getting out after a fresh turn is the key. Even though it was 24 degrees and windy, the fresh gravel made it all good.

This walk turned up a nice 3 1/4 inch corner notch knife blade,
nice and thin too. Very minor damage for a creek find, great natural coloring in the flint. I even had an underwater camera I stuck in and snapped a few shots (remember 24 degrees) of the piece before I rolled up my sleeve and reached in for the retrieval. By this time (24 degrees) my hands felt a little stiff, had to be careful not to drop the find, or my camera, or more importantly my gloves. It was a great day with Joe finding a scraper and me not going swimming. I'll post some of the underwater pics when I get the film developed, hopefully with some additional shots!
