South Covington County , AL

Some heartbreakers from south Covington County. The lower left
point(less) with the rounded stem is probably relatively recent (Woodland
or late Archaic) as the modest weathering has left some of the original
translucent blue color common in “raw” Tallahatta quartzite. Given
another few thousand years of aging it would appear much as the other 3
quartzite points shown with an opaque light tan surface. The stem is similar
to Adena and the earlier Marion types while the shoulders are more typical
of a Newnan. The upper right point is clearly identifiable
as a Lost Lake (early Archaic). |
