Manual Lymphatic Drainage
(MLD)
A brief history
Manual lymphatic drainage, developed by Dr. Emil Vodder and his wife, Estrid, has been practiced since the 1930’s in European hospitals and clinics. Initial recognition of this specialized  type of massage occurred in North America some 50 years later, around 1982.

What are the uses for MLD?
Used to decongest the area where there is retention of fluids. For a more rapid relief of ademas. For greater Oxygenation of the tissues. To recover sensitivity to desensitized areas. To relieve headaches, migraines. To remove waste substances toward their channels of drainage.

Where may MLD be applied:
MLD can be applied on all areas that require Drainage…………Head………Trunk…………Extremities.

What is MLD?
MLD is a method of work in which only the hands are employed, using gentle pumping manipulations over the lymphatic vessels toward the lymphatic nodes.

MLD, its effects & applications:
Its purpose is to accelerate the movement of lymphatic fluid in the human body. In essence renuing the lympth fluid. The lymphatic system can be thought of as the internal cleansing procedure of the body. MLD differs from classic massage in that it addresses the defense mechanisimof the body, rather than the circulatory system.
MLD can be applied to relieve swelling around the eyes due to retention  of fluid,on swollen ankles, in cases of cellulite, flaccidity, to prevent obesity. In cases of acne, eczema,on bruised areas due to traumas or surgical interventions. On all post operative cases to help recover normal functions of the tissues and a healthier aspect more rapidly and in just a few sessions.
