"I'm a Sister...been out digging and collecting since 1970. I live
in the Ohio River Valley, just southeast of Cincinnati. The
very best thing about your site is that "nothing is for sale". Value cannot be put upon the tools of our ancestors. Thank you so much for saving these wonderful gifts for posterity. I enjoy every breathtaking find on your site. Upon looking at that one rock from Krause Creek, the one that has a "waxy surface, polished top and unfinished side", I figure that it is not unfinished, it is unused. I love to hold these tools in my hands and feel the energy of the woman that so diligently worked with them. I love to be in an old village site and find so many womens tools. They are always so practical and wonderful. Don't get me wrong....a finely knapped flint piece is above anything in an art gallery..but those tools of the women enthrall me. A couple of summers ago a friend of mine wanted some old glass for a craft project. She is not a hunter, but she let me drag her into this field where I knew that an old house once stood and old broken glass was scattered about. It is now a tobacco field and it was about waist high. The ground was very clear as it always is in a tobacco patch. We were collecting pieces of glass and I saw the faintest glint and reached down to get what I thought was glass. I screamed bloody murder.( I never do a thing like that) My friend took off like a shot thinking I was snake bit. Glad that I wasn't because she would have been no help! I had found the finest piece my our collection. It is a leaf shaped, blade of Flint Ridge Chalcedony of the finest quality and knapping. If you hold it to the light it looks like it is full of moss. Someone identified it as moss agate..another Chalcedony...who knows..it is gorgeous. We find quite a bit of Flint Ridge artifacts owing to the fact that the acutal Flint Ridge is not so very far from here. I have had many, many fine moments in the fields, walking with our ancestors and received many wonderful gifts. That one was a dandy! If you have never been to Flint Ridge you should make the pilgrimage." Angela Barth Thanks for both the pictures and the story!
